A dining room is a room for expending food. In modern times it is usually adjacent to the kitchen for accessibility in serving, although in medieval hours it was often on an entirely different storey level. Toward the beginning of the 18 th Century, a pattern emerged where the ladies of the members of this house would withdraw after dinner from the dining room to the drawing room. The gentlemen would remain in the dining room having sips. The dining room tends to take on a more masculine tenor as a result .
